Dennis Fulbright considers his paintings to be stories told by his brushes on paper. Fulbright loves to paint the back roads of the Lowcountry and the Appalachians. “There is fantastic scenery and subject matter everywhere, but it was also a way of life,” he says. “When I paint, I’m telling a story, and there are some really great stories to be told in those little old secondary roads, stores and houses. You can’t imagine what life was like back then and the hardships that were part of that life. You can see and almost feel the hardships. It’s painting something that has occurred. It’s a happening.”
These past years traveling the back roads of Georgia, Florida and South Carolina, Fulbright participated in two Plein Air Paint Out competitions. In March of 2023, he won first place at the Forgotten Coast En Plein Air Quickdraw open class at Port St. Joe, Florida. In October of 2023 he won the sponsored Clear Water Award at the Plein Air Paint Out in Edisto, South Carolina.
This year will mark the fifth time he will be featured in the 2025 Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor Art Exhibition.
