Modern Trousseau helps brides create their dream gown

BY KELLY RAE SMITH

Though Modern Trousseau offers gowns for debutantes and such, their specialty is dressing brides for the best day of their lives. This Upper King Street boutique features beautiful exposed-brick walls and minimalistic tones, an ambience that is calming for anyone who may be under the pressure of, say, planning a wedding. Racks full of exquisite Modern Trousseau gowns are designed by Australian-born designer Callie Tein and can be customized by switching a bodice on one sample for that on another, raising a hemline or adding straps, for example. Tein particularly loves the imagination she sees in Charleston brides. “They’re very fashion-forward, and they appreciate our fun, young and fresh aesthetic,” Tein says. The shop can tailor any gown onsite with its own collection of French lace, delicate beading and imported silk to create a couture gown that is precisely customized to a bride-to-be’s design.

Appointments are suggested at the busy showroom, and after-hours appointments can be arranged with advanced notice. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. For more information, call 843-722-6300 or visit moderntrousseau.com.
