Terri Espy and her daughter Krista Roach found the perfect balance when they opened the Gown Boutique of Charleston six years ago. Turns out, Roach’s fashion background meshes remarkably with Espy’s 20-year career in interior design. “It’s all about knowing fabric and construction, the scale and proportion of a garment on your body,” Espy explains. “It’s having an aesthetic eye for those types of things that translates interior design to bridal fashion.”

The mother-daughter duo have grown since the early days into a 200-gown boutique, the largest in Charleston with the most diverse finds in terms of style and price point. The appointment- only Mount Pleasant shop boasts pristine gowns that can be altered by two on-site seamstresses, because they know the fit is as important as the find—the whole experience is significant.

“There are certain things that you do in your life that you just never forget,” Espy says, “and I think buying your wedding gown is one of them. You will always remember the day you purchased your gown and what that experience was.”
