KNOWN for her semiabstract expressionist work, artist Kelly Fischer’s paintings are reflective of the energy she draws from her surroundings. “I pursue shapes and colors,” says Fischer, who has explored various aspects of her creativity throughout her life, even writing and publishing 12 children’s books. “My portraits tell a story of whimsical spontaneity. The landscapes pull the viewer into a world of color, light and emotion. My body of work has developed and evolved over time, with much of the outcome being driven by creative impulses.”
After studying art at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, as well as at the University of Memphis, Fischer moved to Switzerland to continue her studies in the 1980s, where she met her husband and later founded a Montessori school. Over the last 40 years, she has divided her time between her home in Bern, Switzerland; her hometown of Memphis, Tennessee; and Weehawken, New Jersey—each of which are locations for her working studios. Newly installed in Folly Beach, Fischer has found another creative base from which to paint her color-saturated and dynamically executed pieces.
Fischer will have a solo exhibition at Khawam Gallery in East Hanover, New Jersey, in October and will show at Vogelsang Gallery during Art Miami from December 1–7.
