It’s that time of year again, time for the Charleston-based Southeastern Wildlife Exposition (SEWE). This three-day event, which celebrates wildlife and nature through fine art, conservation education, sporting demonstrations and food and drink, will be held February 13 – 15, 2015.
SEWE is the largest and longest running art and sporting lifestyle event of its kind in the United States, and plays host to hundreds of artists and exhibitors as well as to wildlife experts, all eager to share their insights with an expected 40,000 attendees from across the country.
An exciting addition to SEWE 2015 is Richard Wiese, host of Born to Explore—an Emmy Award-winning travel and adventure program on ABC. A respected explorer, field scientist and author, Wiese will share his photography and love of adventure at the Charleston Music Hall.
Offering one of the most educational and entertaining shows during SEWE, the Center for Birds of Prey will again conduct free flight demonstrations by eagles, falcons, owls and hawks at Marion Square. The Square will also feature a wide selection of wildlife collectibles, crafts, scrimshaw, jewelry and unconventional art along with children’s activities, food from area eateries and live music. Additionally, some of Charleston’s finest chefs will offer cooking demonstrations.
Back for a second year is the special event Duets and Quartets. Two painters will paint a wildlife-themed original oil painting while two sculptors create a sculpture out of plaster and clay, all to background music performed by the Charleston Symphony Orchestra Quartet. An auction will follow.
SEWE executive director John Powell says: “For newcomers and longtime attendees alike, one of the most exciting draws will be the art in the Charleston Place Ballroom. In no other place in the country do you find the quality and quantity of wildlife artists, all gathered here for three days. We expect attendees will also be thrilled with Richard Wiese and his tales of travel and exploration.”
