Be Square

Dining room décor that’s sure to entertain

“Functionally, square tables are the modern-day round table, and they are one of my favorites,” says Liz Baker of Coralberry Cottage, a full-service showroom and interior design firm.

“Seated around a square table, all diners have eye contact and feel they are part of the conversation. Everyone has the benefit of being at the head of the table!” The Buckman’s dining room table, a Coralberry Cottage signature piece designed by Baker, who is also an architect, can be made in any shape and size, and seats from eight to 12 (depending on the chosen leaf size). Constructed by a local craftsman from new pine, a versatile wood, it blends nicely with authentic antiques, English country or coastal motifs. It also comes in a multitude of finishes, including the distressed look of reclaimed pine.

To embellish the table, Baker and co-owner Melissa Hempstead supply an extensive assortment of linens in all sizes, colors and patterns. Featured here is a Couleur Nature placemat, a fine French linen, handprinted using ancient Indian woodblock techniques. “It’s French country décor with an Eastern twist, and we love pairing them with beautiful china,” Baker says. The dish shown is from Coralberry Cottage’s striking melamine collection, available in a variety of colors, both solid and patterned.

To tie it all together, a wicker charger adds dimension and texture.
