Treats for Tresses tops it all off

BY ERICA JACKSON CURRAN

Marilyn and Tamsyn Rickards are constantly on the lookout for inspiration. A piece of lace, a vintage bracelet, antique ribbons or flowers from a discarded hat could inspire a one-of-a-kind design for their company Treats for Tresses.

The mother-daughter duo began their enterprise as a way to combine their love of vintage fashion and Tamsyn’s expertise as a hairstylist. In 2010, they started out selling hair pieces at local markets and at Washington D.C.’s famed Eastern Market. Some 3,000 bands and fascinators later, the entrepreneurs decided to focus solely on bridal pieces—but that hasn’t limited their creativity one bit. You’re just as likely to find a rhinestone-encrusted 1940s-style birdcage veil as an intricately beaded disco-diva hairband. They even do custom pieces, whether you’re looking for the perfect accessory to match your bridesmaids’ dresses or a piece that uses great-grandmother’s favorite brooch.

“Each piece tells a story of romance,” Marilyn says. “It’s a new beginning woven with past keepsakes, entwining heirlooms and generations of love and joy into little works of art to treasure forever.”
