ELLA W. Richardson Fine Art has been bringing renowned and award-winning artists from around the world to Charleston for a quarter century. The range in Richardson’s catalog offerings vary from realism to the more contemporary. She also exhibits photography, porcelains, jewelry, bronzes and etchings.
Featured here are three oil paintings by Texas artist Deborah Paris, an American landscape and abstract painter. Her works are based on a foundation of intense and close observation, drawing, memory and imagination. Paris’ work serves as a soulful meditation of art inspired from her garden. Through delicate layers of color and light, she creates a luminous atmosphere that feels like a memory of a stroll in nature. Her scenes possess poetic gravity, reminding us that nature is a place of both profound peace and enduring mystery.
Paris is the founder of The Landscape Atelier, her teaching studio, and the author of the popular blogs Deborah Paris A Painting Life and Field Notes, the blog of The Landscape Atelier. Her book, Painting the Woods: Nature, Memory and Metaphor, was published in November 2020 by Texas A&M University Press.
