Kelly and Trey have never let a little thing like geography get in the way of their relationship. Trey was on a business trip to Chicago when he met his future wife at the Burberry store where she worked. A few weeks later, he flew back to town for their first date—and then their second, and third. When she moved to San Diego a few months later, they continued to see each other every weekend, meeting in various cities until they decided to accept the inevitable. “After 10 weeks in California, I moved back, and we have been inseparable ever since,” Kelly says.

After getting engaged during a winter trip to the Bahamas, the couple chose Charleston as their wedding destination. They looked at several venues before falling in love with Lowndes Grove Plantation. “It was the ideal mixture of historical Southern charm with understated glamour and elegance,” Kelly says.

Working with wedding planner Cory Lambert of Sage Innovations, the couple created a secret garden-style party using a soft color palette of blush pink, cream, taupe, deep forest greens, and accents of crystal and mercury glass.

As the daughter of a Louisville, Kentucky, dining legend—Pat Francis of Pat’s Steak House— Kelly wanted to make sure the food was outstanding. They selected a diverse menu ranging from a Sicilian buffet and Southern-style hors d’oeuvres to a prime rib station and ice cream sundae bar.

In lieu of gifts, the couple asked guests to donate to the Charleston Miracle League, which provides disabled adults and children a variety of sports-related activities to foster confidence and enhanced social skills. “My favorite moment of the wedding was when Trey, unbeknownst to me or anybody else, got up on stage to announce that we had raised enough funds to honor my grandmother, my Nannan, at the field where CML plays their spring and fall leagues,” Kelly says. “She was very ill weeks before the wedding and couldn’t attend; however, with that announcement, she would be a part of our wedding forever.”
