GEORGETOWN ART GALLERY

FOUNDED in 1997 by a group of local artists whose objective was to create a place to display their works and network with other artists within the community, the Georgetown Art Gallery (GAG) is the only cooperative gallery in Georgetown, South Carolina. Its 20 artists comprise an extensive variety of styles, techniques and mediums, including oil, acrylic, watercolors, encaustics, pastels, ceramics and photography.

Among the gallery’s artists are Sissy Carroll, current gallery president. Kathleen V. Stuart’s focus is fiber in the form of wall hangings and 3-D pieces. Jeanne O’Neal’s canvases are love letters to the marsh, to the harbor, to the history she is helping to preserve. Debanjana Bhattacharjee is an en plein air painter who captures those fleeting, beautiful moments outdoors. Ed Rana is a published photographer and recipient of numerous awards in national and international exhibitions.

Each member artist must pass a jurying process, ensuring that the gallery maintains a diverse selection of artwork of the highest quality. “We are proud to have been a successful artist cooperative for over 27 years,” says Carroll. “Through this cooperative, we have been able to support, encourage and showcase each other, as well as promote the arts in our community.”
