Founded in 1997 by a small group of local artists whose objective was to create a place to display their works and network with other artists within the community, the Georgetown Art Gallery (GAG) is Georgetown’s only cooperative gallery. The gallery represents 20 local artists, filling the space with an exciting and remarkable selection of art covering an extensive variety of styles, techniques and mediums, including oils, acrylics, watercolors, encaustics, etchings, pastels, ceramics and photography.
Among their highly acclaimed artists are Diane White, an award-winning and nationally exhibited artist; South Carolina landscape artist Sissy Carroll; Ed Rana, a published photographer and recipient of numerous awards in statewide and international exhibitions; Jeanne O’Neal, a recognized coastal landscape artist and juried participant in numerous exciting art exhibits; and Dorie Ellis, an award-winning painter of landscapes and shorebirds.
Each member artist must pass a jury process, which ensures that the gallery maintains a diverse selection of artwork of the highest quality in the area. Additionally, GAG member artists also donate work to the South Carolina Maritime Museum’s annual fundraiser.
“We are proud to have been a successful artist cooperative for over 26 years,” says Carroll.
