GINNY VERSTEEGEN FINE ART

FORMALLY trained in art education, Ginny Versteegen spent her entire professional life immersed in art, teaching its history and its techniques to students of all ages. With a love of all things creative since she was a child, Versteegen was selected to be part of a pre-college group at Carnegie-Mellon University and then went on to get her degree at Edinboro University in Pennsylvania, majoring in painting and minoring in art history. Her love of that history deepened as she lived and traveled around the world, and the many renowned artists she had the good fortune to meet and work with influenced her technique.

Now settled in Charleston, Versteegen paints in oil, using mostly canvas and linen to capture scenes of the Lowcountry landscape that has stolen her heart and inspired her brush. The colors of her surroundings, from forest and garden to shoreline and marsh, are clear evidence that she loves bright hues, and her style displays the undeniable influence that the Dutch masters have had on her. Her love of indigenous birds has given them a treasured presence in many of her paintings, and the charm of Lowcountry life is always at the heart of each piece.
