Over the last 14 years, Hagan Fine Art has built a reputation for the talent of its represented artists, as well as the personalized care offered to its clients. Since taking ownership in summer of 2024, Wendy Carlin has infused her passion into the gallery and its processes.
“What I find most fascinating about selling art are two key aspects,” Carlin notes. “First, getting to know an artist and diving into their motivations and creative vision is truly rewarding. I make it a point to visit artists’ studios and see their work in progress. It’s always an inspiring experience. Second, there’s nothing quite like connecting a collector with a piece of art that speaks to them, whether it’s the subject, colors, composition or medium. When someone falls in love with a piece you’ve shared with them and you know it will become part of their life, it’s an incredibly fulfilling feeling.”
Her staff share that same passion, and Carlin loves to watch the excitement with which they work, connecting collectors with artists.
This spring, the gallery will host various shows, including a group exhibition of works on paper and an exhibition of artist Mike Williams’ new paintings.
Since its opening in 2010, Hagan Fine Art has built a reputation for connecting art lovers in and around Charleston with the incredible work of award-winning artists. Under the ownership of artist and founder Karen Hewitt Hagan, the gallery’s roster of represented artists has grown into a collection of more than 30 celebrated artists from across the globe—many of whom have been with the gallery for years.
Over the course of those years, the gallery has seen a few different homes in Downtown Charleston’s historic district. Throughout those many changes, Hagan saw opportunity.
The gallery has once again seen change with new ownership under Wendy Carlin, who recently relocated to Charleston. Carlin brings with her more than 30 years of experience in the art world, including Sotheby’s in NYC, the [Donald] Judd Foundation and Heather Gaudio Fine Art. Continuing the tradition of sourcing global art for collectors from around the world, Carlin and the team at Hagan Fine Art will provide a welcoming and innovative gallery for art lovers and artists. “I feel incredibly fortunate to have met Karen and have the opportunity to continue her work in creating a welcoming space for artists and collectors to come together,” Carlin says.
