We all want to look and feel our best, and sometimes we need a little help to do that. Plastic Surgery of the Carolinas, owned by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Craig Rowin, is ready to help reveal and restore each of its patient’s natural beauty through the latest surgical and nonsurgical cosmetic treatments. Whether the wish is to improve appearance, erase the march of time, repair sun damage, correct a birth defect or participate in a consult to discuss options for achieving an aesthetic goal, Rowin and his staff are ready to serve patients’ needs with innovative rejuvenation tools and procedures in a beautifully designed office setting.

Rowin’s primary concern is giving his patients plenty of time to explore both the surgical and nonsurgical cosmetic procedures available to them. “At Plastic Surgery of the Carolinas, our approach is patient-centered,” he says. “I believe in an unhurried practice, where every patient gets as much time as he or she needs to understand the options available and have all issues adequately addressed. Our entire practice and all of our employees operate in the same manner; that’s the flow in our office. Each patient gets our full attention for as long as it takes. Personally, it is how I most enjoy working and results in a luxury boutique feel in our office.”

Rowin has been serving patients at the flagship location, Plastic Surgery of the Carolinas in Mount Pleasant, for the past eight years and recently opened Shine Medical Spa by Plastic Surgery of the Carolinas, which is located in the historic Cigar Factory in Downtown Charleston. He designs individualized treatment plans for patients across three interconnected areas of the practice, depending on specific needs: cosmetic surgical procedures, reconstructive surgery and noninvasive medical spa services. “I personally focus on delivering surgical results because that’s where my excellence and skill lies, but we also have assembled a team with deep expertise in all nonsurgical procedures that provides services at both locations,” he says.

While cosmetic surgery is often the most powerful approach to solving issues of concern, such as sagging skin and wrinkles, there are a host of noninvasive medical spa services available to treat these signs of aging. Experienced medical spa staff provide injectable dermal fillers and Botox, laser skin resurfacing and light therapy, skin rejuvenation such as SkinPen and Morpheus8 microneedling, DiamondGlow, ellacor, chemical peels and several lines of medical-grade skincare products. Patients can take advantage of these medical spa treatments at both the Mount Pleasant location and the renovated Downtown Charleston medical spa, which Rowin calls a “cool space” with easy access from Highway 17 and a dedicated parking lot.

On the cosmetic surgery side, Rowin has many years of experience serving patients through facial and body surgeries such as breast augmentation; post-pregnancy body contouring, known as “mommy makeovers”; facelifts; eyelid surgeries; neck lifts; liposuction; abdominoplasty; and many other procedures. “Fillers have a role, but they can’t always replace a traditional face and neck lift,” he says.

Regardless of whether the right solution for a patient is surgical or noninvasive, Rowin and his team review all of the treatment alternatives with each patient. “I don’t expect patients to know all of the options,” he says. “We discuss the pros and cons of all approaches and find the right strategy to arrive at the patient’s desired outcome. For most patients, medical spa treatments and surgical treatments can go hand in hand. It’s my responsibility to educate and collaborate with them to create a customized plan just right for them.”

The depth of Rowin’s experience spans well beyond his years in the Charleston area. Born and raised in Connecticut, he attended medical school in the same state and later completed a six-year residency in integrated plastic surgery at the University of Massachusetts. After his residency, he further specialized by completing a fellowship in craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgery at Miami Children’s Hospital. During that time, he traveled on mission trips to Ecuador, operating on children to reconstruct cleft lips and cleft palates.

His time spent working with pediatric patients reinforced his commitment to address the needs of both children and adults for reconstructive surgery, which is another important practice area at Plastic Surgery of the Carolinas. Rowin treats facial reconstruction patients, including pediatric patients, and provides services such as breast reconstruction after mastectomy and other surgeries to remove cancer. He particularly enjoys working with children and breast cancer survivors to help them look and feel their best.

A wide range of patients enjoy the benefits of both surgical and medical spa treatments. Patients of all ages, both women and men, benefit from the services offered at Plastic Surgery of the Carolinas and Shine Medical Spa. No matter the treatment plan, patients can expect to be given full attention by the most well-respected, experienced physicians and practitioners in the industry.

Whatever surgery or treatment the staff provides is performed using the latest technology that has proven results. “We consistently reinvest in the practice and keep up to date with the newest techniques so that we’re operating in the best way,” Rowin says. “We’ve got the options patients need. What we do, we do well.” *
