Checking in with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra (CSO), we confirmed that more than 60 concerts are scheduled in Charleston and the surrounding communities this season. Performances—from pop and chamber music to classical masterworks—will feature internationally acclaimed artists. Check the website for upcoming performances of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6, Stravinsky’s The Firebird, Saint-Saëns “Organ” Symphony and the Symphony Fantastique by Berlioz.
Special news is that the symphony has launched a search for a new music director. Six candidates will be presenting themselves to the Charleston community as conductors of a masterworks performance. During “Meet the Maestro” weeks, the CSO will host events that provide opportunities for the community to learn more about each candidate and offer feedback through both online and print forums.
In addition to its many stage performances, the CSO continues to expand its educational outreach through a variety of programs.
With both the expansion of these programs and the addition of a Boeing-sponsored family concert in late January and the Pepsico National Young Artists Competition, the CSO will extend its outreach to nearly 18,000 young people in the 2013-2014 season.
