WHEN AARON BEASLEY TELLS CUSTOMERS ABOUT PALM CASUAL’S warranty, they don’t believe him. And he gets it; the policy sounds absurd. “If your Palm Casual furniture ever breaks or your cushions need mending, no matter what happened, we’ll fix it for free, no questions asked,” says Beasley, partner-owner of the family-run outdoor furniture company.
No matter what happened? Even if Godzilla stepped on it?
“Even if Godzilla stepped on it,” he states.
The warranty covers everything. Dog chewed up a cushion? Palm Casual will mend or replace it free of charge. A horde of 5-year-olds broke a frame? The company will weld it for free. Tipsy book club set it on fire? Fixed for free.
Beyond repairs, Palm Casual offers a 30-day return policy that defies industry standards. If you don’t like the fabric color you chose, you can try another. If you don’t like the second color, you can try again. “We have 500 fabrics, and we’ll be happy to help you try every single one,” Beasley says. “Or, if the furniture just doesn’t fit your space, return it, and we’ll refund everything, including the delivery fee. If you find a better value somewhere else, we’ll refund you. Better value doesn’t just mean a lower price; it means if your neighbors gave you free furniture, that’s a better value for you. You cannot think of a reason we would decline to repair, take back or exchange your furniture. Our returns are for cash, not store credit. I don’t even know how to do store credit.”
The secret isn’t just generous policies, it’s vertical integration. Palm Casual manufactures everything it sells, so it can fix anything that breaks. “Because we make it, we can fix it,” Beasley explains. “If your wicker gets damaged, we can fix it. If a weld breaks, we have welders. I don’t have to ask a rep, and you don’t have to hunt for fine print.”
By manufacturing in-house, Palm Casual doesn’t worry about its radical policies impacting the bottom line because it builds quality products. “We have the best materials anyone can use,” Beasley says. “We can’t cheap out on quality because we’d go out of business.”
This manufacturing advantage allows the company to keep prices competitive. It supplies over 500 retailers across America with the same products that other stores mark up. Shopping at Palm Casual means buying directly from the source.
“We believe we’re the least expensive place anybody can shop,” Beasley says. “If I’m wrong, it’s a self-checking mechanism. There’s a lot of information out there, and people shop around. We can do this because we control our costs, order materials in volume and don’t plan on retiring from one sale. We make a little bit of money, customers are happy, and they know they have a great product.”
Beasley didn’t set out to work in furniture. The company was started in 1979 by the father of his childhood best friend. After college, he took a job at the store, and that was 19 years ago. Today, Palm Casual remains deeply family-oriented. Beasley’s brother, mom, mother-in-law and sister-in-law all work there, alongside his childhood friend. “I have four kids, and I want them to work here,” he says. “That’s our culture; that’s who we are.”
This family foundation shapes every aspect of the business. No one works on commission. There are no sales quotas or aggressive techniques. “Nobody works on commission here, and we really try to help people save money,” Beasley says. “We try to down sell people—sometimes we can offer you a less expensive way to do what you want.”
The brand’s philosophy is simple: operate like it’s 1950. “We put a lifetime warranty on our products, and we smile and fix anything that breaks,” Beasley says. “We know we have to go above and beyond; it’s the heart of the business to make the customer happy, even if we lose money. Our best customers return their furniture sometimes, and we love them. This model has worked for 45 years.”
Palm Casual carries outdoor furniture in wicker, cast aluminum, teak, marine-grade poly and extruded aluminum, as well as pipe furniture, available in contemporary, traditional and modern styles of all heights. Its selection includes a wide range of color options and every Sunbrella fabric made.
Customers can choose custom fabric and frame combinations at no additional cost or select from in-stock items for immediate delivery. Custom orders typically ship in under two weeks, compared to the industry standard of 10 to 14 weeks.
Palm Casual has locations in Mount Pleasant, Bluffton, Summerville and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Wilmington, North Carolina; several locations in Georgia; and more than 10 in Florida.
Beasley stands behind every word: “If you don’t believe it, call any store and tell them you bought Adirondack chairs from us three years ago and they broke. Then don’t say anything else. You’ll see. We’ll fix it.” *
