After moving to South Carolina nearly two decades ago, Thomas Beaver began painting the Lowcountry landscapes of his new home and the scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains, both of which inspired his budding talent and ignited a passion in him to create. Over the years, he passed that passion on to others in the art workshops he taught in Georgetown and McClellanville, South Carolina.
Beaver’s scenery changed once again when he moved to Blowing Rock, North Carolina, in 2021, trading the marshes of Charleston’s Lowcountry for breathtaking views of the peaks and forests of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Johns River Gorge. His recent work has naturally focused on these new surroundings, evolving in a way that has also bled into his technique and style.
Throughout his career, the award-winning, self-taught artist has become known for his loose, impressionistic and semiabstract style, large brushstrokes and penchant for rich, emotive colors. Beaver’s use of brushes and palette knives result in paintings that are highly textural and expressive, conveying mood and energy while also capturing light and shadow.
Beaver currently owns and operates a gallery in Blowing Rock. He is represented by Lowcountry Artists Gallery in Charleston and Art Harbor Gallery in Georgetown.
