MAGNOLIA PLANTATION AND GARDENS
If it wasn’t for Professor Basu’s accounting class at the University of Georgia, Jacklene Szadek and Hunter Creekmore never would have met. The couple connected when Hunter asked to copy Jacklene’s notes one day after class, but he didn’t muster up the courage to ask her out until two years later, just before they graduated. His patience paid off, and the couple wed at Magnolia Plantation in September 2013.
“I was drawn to Magnolia because of its beautiful and romantic setting along the Ashley River,” says Jacklene, who now lives in St. Louis with her husband. “The gardens were breathtaking and I loved the rustic charm of the Carriage House.”
Working with Candice Hilse at Yoj Events, Jacklene and Hunter hosted a wedding that was romantic, elegant and distinctly Southern. The menu, from Cru Catering, had a Lowcountry flair, with classic comfort food like shrimp ‘n’ grits and mac ‘n’ cheese. Guests raved over the chicken and waffle appetizers, not to mention the late-night snacks of sliders and mini gelato cones. Their specialty cocktail was a blend of sweet tea vodka and lemonade.
“My favorite part of the wedding was the last hour when our reception turned into a late-night dance party,” Jacklene says. “The dance floor was packed with all of our family and friends. I remember looking around and seeing how much fun everyone was having. Two of our friends picked Hunter and I up and put us on their shoulders. It made for the best pictures!”
